I'm planning on loading 400 grain Swift A-Frames in a Ruger M77 416 Rigby. Does anyone have a suggestion who's 400 grain solid is likely to shoot to roughly the same point of impact? I have heard that the Barnes expanding and solid shoot to the same point of impact but I have not been wild about the performance of the TSX as I have had them shoot through animals like solids. I like the Swifts because of great performance with the 250 grain in 338 Win Mag.

Them TSX's over-penetrate a lot from what I've heard.

In my experience it's hard to tell what solid will shoot to the same POI as a soft until you try it.
I mostly shoot 400-grain Nosler Partitions in my .416 Rigby, and Barnes Banded, Trophy Bonded Sledgehammers and Nosler solids all land close enough to the same place to work just fine.

Like MD says, it's trial and error. I happen to shoot A Frames myself and use OLD Hornady solids to shoot to the same POI. Also, in my experience the 416 Rigby throws everything pretty damned close to POI so your "search" might be short! jorge
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I shot 400gr Aframes from my .416 Rem. Mag at just over 2400fps and found that the North Fork solids shot to the same POI at about the same or slightly higher velocity. As the others said, though, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a load with most any solid to the same POI as your soft.

My CZ will shoot 100yd combined groups with 400gr Partitions and 400gr Barnes Banded into less that 1.5". When I use 400gr SAF with the Barnes, it runs more like 2". Both are good to go.
Funny thing about the TSXs in the Rigby, my PH asked me not to use them since we would be shooting cape buffalo bulls from out of the herd and over penetration can be expensive.
