So I didn't draw a tag for Oregon this fall, but I still plan on going, just to spend time with the in-laws. I'll be up by Starkey, and I'm wondering if there is any other game to pursue while I'm there that would be of interest.
Thoughts?

Now that's funny, but it doesn't give me a reason to bring a gun with me. Maybe I'll go fishing.

Depending on how long your around you could always pick up a 2nd season spike only, I think anyway not sure how it works as a non-res??? Just a thought, 2nd season though can be tough hunting.

I've been reading Oregon regs all morning, and it looks like I can't carry a centerfire bigger than .22 cal during the time I will be there unless I have a valid elk tag.

You can carry a shotgun and shoot some grouse though. I knocked a few down after my deer hunt a few years ago in the Starkey unit.

There are general OTC spike only tags available to non residents. The hunt is held after the controlled any bull and controlled spike only hunts. The pickings are slim but theres always a few around...

Thoughts? That general season spike tag is valid in parts of 10 different NE Oregon units. See regs.

Is there a limit of out of staters for General Western Oregon Elk hunts? we have no shortage of Californians here in S. Oregon during Elk Season...

If your willing to bowhunt and heading out in September most of NE Oregon is over the counter for archery buck/bull. Other wise it's fishing, preditors and birds.
