What do you gentlemen that do a lot of ammunition loading consider the ideal height for your bench, please?
I'm about to build a new one and can't decide if I want it desk height to work from a chair or bartop height to work from a stool.
It will also be used for my gun cleaning and minor gunsmithing chores.
Cordially,
Jim Stewart

Jim,
I am getting ready to move into a new home. I have a dedicated reloading/gun room in it. The CinC house only had one criteria it has to look presentable. My plan is to use two prefabricated or custom seconds kitchen cabinet bases, one with drawers and the other with shelves as a base with two layers or inch plywood glued together as a top, and then cover it with a sheet of Formica or similar product. I am also going to get one or two tall cabinets to go on either side of the desk that I am making for additional storage, along with built in book shelves over the base with lighting underneath. The space I am working with is 11 feet long and will be about 24 inches deep.
I will post photos when I get finished.

Mine is 72"W X24"D X 32"H made from a piece of counter top.I use a nice comfortable barstool with a backrest purchased at an auction to park my butt. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I prefer to sit in a regular chair rather than a stool. It makes my back & feet happier. Depending on the size of your room, my suggestion would be to get a solid core door for the worktop. Normally yopu can find a used or second for little $, mine was 35.00 if I recall...

Mine is 40 inches tall. I prefer to stand for some reloading chores, and sit for others. At 40 inches, a bar type stool is just about right when sitting.

my shop and reloading bench are the same height (do not know the measurement now). I set them up so my hands are working a comfortable level and I do not have to bend over. I am 6'4" so height is diff for all. also, I use a couple of "L" braces to attach to a stud in a wall so the whole rig does not wobble when working the press.

Well, I'm the odd one out - I stand all the time when reloading or working on guns. I find it easier on my back....I have three benches in my gun room - two for reloading and one for cleaning and other gun related chores. I will measure the height tonight, but I am guessing they are about 42".
Regards,
Tom

Mine is around 32" high because I find sitting easier on my back than standing, and I use a Lee Hand Press which works great while sitting. I use a wheeled/ swivel computer chair to adjust the height to suit myself.

My cleaning bench is 32" high. My three reloading benches are 34". I use a bar stool when I want to sit and it's high enough that I can work standing if I want to. I do both. I'm a bit over 5"10".
