I just saw a photo of a fly reel that had a drop down elbow like attachment(looks like it was made that way) from the the reel to the reel seat, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THIS IS?

I am not computer literate enough to post a pic of it, it wasn't an auto-winder. it had about a 2-3 inch space between the reel and the rod,it put the reel at a lot lower angle.

It's an Abel reel with the optional arm. I've got several of them (Abels), and have the "Able Arm" on a couple. http://www.abelreels.com/pages/abel_arm.htmGreat, but pricy reels. The arm does give a different feel to the rod when casting. I like it on the two I have them on.

I don't think it's anything other than a different mount design, one that allows the reel (and line) a little more clearance from the rod. Marketing gimmicks, fancy lightning holes in its structure; new design sells product. Doesn't work any better than the old stuff, IMHO.
