What are your thoughts on Remingtons 1911 R1 pistol? I've only read the literature, mostly favorable, but haven't handled, shot one. Anybody have feedback?

I am sure they will not be able to screw up the design. Others have speculated a Phillipino version which are functional. They have turned a few heads with their AR variants, and seem to have been successful with that. Of course timing may have helped there.
I am not sure they are in circulation yet.

I have a friend who was recently looking for his 'first' 45 Cal. pistol. ----------------------------------------------------------------
I suggested (of course) a 1911. Another friend (a self styled gun guru) objected vehemently - and declared he needed to go in the much superior modern polymer type 45 Pistol direction. Suggesting 'whatever' ???
Later ... I read a post 'here' in the 24 HCF Handgun Forum about the new impending Remington R1 1911 pistol soon to arrive ...and I told my friend about it (if he was interested), and so we looked it up on the Internet.
That was only my "starter" tactic to direct him to some other cherished 1911's that I would 'heartingly and knowingly' recommend to him.
He said he wanted a 45 Cal. pistol that was "kinda like" the pistol he was issued when in the U.S. Army many many years ago and he didn't want any tricked-up custom 1911.
When he saw the history, specs, and the appearance of this Remington R1 1911 ... He said "Thank you David. THAT is exactly the Pistol that I want." He also declared that he was a REMINGTON fan.
Also, the Rem. R1 IS: "MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"
So, I recommended that he see Leon at Scheels, and see if he can order one for him. Leon already knew about them and already had six Rem. R1 1911's on order.
My friend put his money 'down' and is the first in line for one. I will also have a chance if they come in, and I want one.
They are "expected" late this June.
We'll see ...

The first one to hit our shop new from Remington was full of surface rust inside the dust cover and bottom of the slide. A fluke I am hoping as it is an otherwise nice pistol.
