...These three bullets were recovered from the Oryx, Black Wildebeest, and Red Hartebeest (all other shots were pass-throughs)... Left to right bullets recovered from Oryx, Black Wildebeest and red hartebeest, correct? What did the bullet on the left hit that the others didn't to get more deformed? Just curious. Thanks for posting As best I could tell, that one actually smashed through the rear hip bone and/or "femur" (if that's what you call it on an Oryx). The rest must have missed the bone but still traversed the length of the body.

That's what I guessed, thanks.
I believe in all mammals a femur is a femur and is the same for other bones also. They may look different but for the most part are the same

Top cannelure groove (closest to the tip). With a .375 comparator, COL was 2.975" measured to the ogive, crimped with the Lee factory crimp die. Here's a group in which I let the barrel get a bit hot toward the end (hot day), and the shots walked up a bit. Seriously, this gun will do this all day long if I do my part. That is an excellent group, and would take that to the field any day. Seeing the vertical nature of that group, I would tempted (only because curiosity kills me) to reduce the load 1 grain, and/or check the forend pressure to see if the vertical string becomes one hole. I'm not suggesting that what you show isn't excellent, I'd just half to mess with it to know for sure.

Here is a 3 shot group from yesterday. See recipe above. I was running the 270gr Barnes w/76gr of RL15, tried the 74.5 and 75 and wow what a difference. Although, it could be Karnis' stock work!

Head out in three weeks for the Caprivi and will be using 300 gr TSX's. I have a Talmage Arms built on a Browning mauser action. Elegant 8 lb rifle and a true sub-MOA weapon with the 300's. Cape Buffalo, eland, roan and sable are primary goals for this trip. The 300's deliver an honest 2600 from this rifle which gives me 4" of drop at 250 yds with a 200 yd zero. Not an ideal plains game trajectory, but not bad since I am optimizing for buff. Have married it with the 300gr Barnes banded solid at the same velocity which creates a two-inch combined group with the TSX's at 100 yards. Couldn't believe in a rifle or caliber more.

I have to agree 100% with your post Joe!

That's good to hear. I'm working up loads for a 2011 trip. So far the 270 grain TSX at 2700 fps using H4895...
You're right. The 375 H&H is probably the perfect hunting cartridge. IMR 4895 used to be really temperature sensitive, I don't know about Hodgdon. It might be a good idea to check those loads on a really hot day.

What is your overall ength on the 300gr Barnes banded solid.
I have considered the Woodleigh 350 protected power point for heavy game, but really have not heard much about it.

There is a good reason the 375HH has been so successful for over 100 years. Think back to the original cordite and cup and core bullets at only 2350 compared to the same cartridge today with a 270 @ 2800 and the 300 at 2600!
The original cartridge was the very first "magnum" so now what is it today a

If anyone is interested in a low recoiling load for their 375 H&H, I found that 66 grains of R-15 delievers one hole accuracy with the 270 grain TSX's from both my Whitworth and Win 70.
I don't know the velocity produced but it has worked just dandy as a load for white tail.

I promised to post some details about the performance of my .375 H&H on the Namibia trip. I fired eight times, and I took eight animals (Kudu, Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Blesbok, Springbok, Hartmann's Zebra, Red Hartebeest). No tracking was required whatsoever, and all animals fell within 20-30 yards of where they were shot. Ranges were from 50-250 yards. What an awesome testimonial! How could anyone expect anything better than that? The performance of the rifle, the bullet, and the hunter are simply outstanding. Congratulations, richard!

Saaaaay...what's this about big, well-designed bullets NOT GOING OVER 3000fps???? And they kill animals, you say? Will wonders never cease?
300g A-Square Dead Tough at 2300. Pleasant to shoot, too. Roughly 30.06/220 trajectory.
