i redid a 260 remington dbm to 7-08 with a 22" barrel.
came in with a leupold 6x36 scope and talley's in a modified sps stock and 4 shells in the mag right at 7 pounds.

i am shooting 140 accubonds.

From your post, I would pick a Kimber 84L in 30-06.

I can't support Cooper, and their rifle seem a tad heavy. But they shoot!

My choice would be a 270 WCF. The rifle would be a Kimber 84L or FN Model 70 Deluxe. I have the Model 70 deluxe and am waiting for the 84L's to show up in the local shops.

In the high country for deer etc? 25 Souper. Elk? 260 AAR. Nice thing is short action-light weight and not much in terms of recoil.

270, 280 or the 30-06 will be the best choices. Anyone of those three. Throw in a 7/08 into the mix too.

If for deer only, but can be used for larger game, the 270 and 7/08 are excellent.

Bottom line!.....Six, a 1/2 dozen or the other as they say! Can`t go wrong with either as a deer round.

I presently have two that I think are good all around, one is a Winchester model 70 Featherweight 270 and the other is a Model 70 Extreme Weather in 308. If deciding between a Cooper or a Kimber I wouldn't hesitate to pick the Cooper.Compare the two side by side and has anyone heard of a Cooper that doesn't shoot or feed well?Can't say the same for a Kimber.

So--I am really craving a Kimber Montana, however am still pondering selling another rifle I have. I currently own two guide guns, a stainless and blued.

My blued one is scoped ready to go. I bought the stainless "to have it" but am thinking I may sell and get the blued gun cerekoted(if posible) from the elements. Would that be stupid to do? Is it possible?

Cerakote is great stuff, and would be nice on the Marlin. A Montana in 7-08 or .308 would be fine all around. for deer, get a Bob.

I'd do the .30-06 in the Cooper or Kimber, or a .308 Kimber. I wouldn't want to buy a Cooper in .280 Winchester.

Can't go wrong with a .270 or 30-06 for the lower 48.

As an all around deer cartridge I would go with the .280 or if you decide to be open to .277 cals the .270 Win or WSM. No comment on the Coopers, but I have personally had good luck with my 2 Kimber Montanas (WSMs).

forced to chose between a cooper or a kimber, i'd go with the cooper. 270/280/308/30-06 would do well.

7X57, .308, .30-'06, .284 Winchester, .280 Remington, .270 Winchester. Any would be excellent.

I just bought a Cooper in 280,it shoots itty bitty groups and will put the first two rounds in one ragged hole at 100 yards.

I have owned several Kimbers and currently have an 84M in 257 Roberts,none of them grouped like the Cooper.

Kimbers and Coopers have a very different feel to them.

Kimbers tend to be very light and are a pleasure to carry on a hunt where you are on the move.

The Cooper feels much heavier when you carry it around.

I would pick a Kimber if Im planned on hunting on the move,and a Cooper if I were mostly hunting from fixed stands.

I would pick a 270 if I did not handload,If I were a handloader,I'd get a 270 or a 280.
