Is there such a thing? Here's a 1949 EG that sure looks like it has a case hardened reciever This is the way I picked it up. If not case hardened, what could it be? Picks compliments of Joe OK Joe do your thing .. Thanks

A quick run around other websites shows a lot of 99s were blued, including levers.
My project 99 has a case-hardnened lever, those this pre-suppose a a case-hardned a receiver? The finish is uniformly gone from the receiver and foreend metal, so I am clueless.
Looks like I should get a factory letter

Levers weren't blued they were case hardened, a blued lever represents a reblue.

Only case colored reciever's that i'm aware of were the 1895's.I've seen several...J.

I posted about a case colored 1913 F that had a case colored receiver. Looked right to me, matched the lever. The owner had a letter from JTC that only stated "special order" or something like that. It did not state specifics.

A case colored saddle ring carbine? Any sign of the butt plate being case colored or the staple and ring? Anything else not a standard item on the gun? What condition is it in?
It's one of those cases where if you don't know of any others being case colored from that time period you want to be very careful.
Very interesting...keep us posted on what you find.
