I can't seem to get My Nylon 66 to shoot well. I've tried almost all differant cartridges including the Eley and Rem. Eley Match. Someone told Me that plain Winchester rn's worked for Him. I've had this gun since the mid 70's, but have never played with it. I think it was made around 64 or 65. I've cleaned the bore, but that didn't seem to help. Shoots about 6" groups @ 75yds. Mostly vert. stringing, Horiz. seems about 3.5". Any tricks that I may try?

One trick, that is tried and true, is to sell it.

I've seen guys at the range who would be happy with that level of accuracy. They mount a paper plate at 25 yards and if they hit it at least half the time they are happy.

Quick question - scope or iron sights? Scopes don't usually work well on 66's.

I have an Apache 66 and it shoots a whole lot better than that at 75 yards. Have you stripped it down and cleaned it?

It is scoped and always has been since I bought it. Maybe that's the problem. I can see why, because of the way the receiver and barrel are separate. Think I'll take the scope off and try the open sights.

Do you use a sling? If so take it off. The nylon stocks are too flexible.

Gotta admit though, as kid I loved my 66. Still have a soft spot for it.

Here's a pretty nice article on these:

Wolf Match Target ammo shoots better in more 22 Rifles I own than any other ammo, including some of the high end stuff.
Buy a box and give it a try.
By sorting Wolf MT by weight and rim thickness, I can come VERY close to the good high end ammo for accuracy in target rifles I have.

I would suggest removing the scope on the 66. It is just a sheet metal cover that the scope is attached to on the 66. I had a 66 that shot well with irons, so I never scopes it.

Scope on a 66 is a bad idea. Tried that during my teen years with an Apache Black 66. POI would change from shot to shot. I didnt know why until just a few years ago I read about it here. I have no idea how much ammo I went thru trying to get that damned gun zeroed.
