In a car, motorcycle, boat, airplane?
For me- 174 mph, 2001 BMW M5(GPS verified) 186 mph, 2004 Kawasaki ZX-10(radar gun) 709 mph, British Airways Boeing 777(over Newfoundland with a 175 mph tailwind).

1,000 mph more or less -- at the equator -- circumference of the earth is + or - 25K miles, and she makes a turn every 24hrs.

about 120 on a bike (20 years ago or more)
about 150 in a car
540 in a plane (but I wasn't driving so that doesn't count)
the only plane I've ever drove was a singe engine prop and that was probably only a tad over 100 mph.

Okay -- 240 km/h (150 mph) in a Ford Custom 460 Interceptor police car in the late 70's on land most of the time. On water, not all that fast -- about 70 mph in a hydrofoil powered by a 454 Chevy. In the air, whatever a 747 or Airbus 330 will go. One day, soon I hope, I will be travelling to the ends of the universe in the blink of an eye. (1Thes 4:13-18)

Not counting planes, I've done 150+ on bikes a few times.

Reason I brought up the plane was, besides being an airplane loony, the seats had gps info on the tv screens, and I was amazed at the tailwind(jet stream) we had going East.

[quote=340boy Ahhh man, I should have said 'relative speed with relationship to the earth's speed of rotation.' [/quote] I'm just happy to see it termed speed instead of velocity.

150, 2005 GTO. She had more - ran out of road. Pretty stable at that speed. Gauge said I was getting 14 MPG.

Between Australia and NZ one trip the captain's voice came over the speaker and informed us that we were traveling faster than we ever had or would likely ever travel again . We had a tailwind approaching 300 mph as I recall . I forget what our groundspeed was but 800 + comes to mind .

Car: 155mph+? '78 Trans-Am. 6.6 liter 400, all decked out. 4 speed. Speedo was pinned, so no accurate reading. Remember taking my belt off, figuring that at those speeds it wasn't good for anything anyway. Amazing stupidity in any scenario, but the other two drunken teenagers and I thought it was most cool at the time.
Bike: ~150 on a few makes and models. GSX-R 1100, Ninja 1000 and an old KZ 1000 with No2. My current bike's speedo goes to 160, but I've only had it to around 130 last year. There was *plenty* left in her, but realized I was being a donkey and backed off to something a lot less idiotic.
Commercial jets don't count.

A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
