I just picked up a 6833xx (lever boss code 13F?)Savage 99eg in 300 Sav. It's a little rough around the edges, but I got it at a great price for a piece I'll carry in the woods this fall.

Best to have a qualified gunsmith answer your question.

Dru, if the rifle is in good functioning condition then it's fine for modern ammunition. The specs for the 30-30 haven't changed, and there's plenty of 100+ year old Savage 99's that work great.

Congrats on the EG, mpmax. LBC puts it in 1954, though there's a lot of inaccuracy on them in that range. Lots of serial numbers in that range or slightly higher that have a 1953 LBC also. Pick one of those years that you like and go with that. grin

Dru,

Don't run anything stupid HOT through it, assuming its all still in factory original condition... you will be fine. I wouldn't even think twice about it.
