Commercial tablets fm Cabelas, BPS, etc. I have also carried a tiny bottle of regular chlorine bleach...10 drops per gal and wait about 15 minutes.

Aqua Mira. Super light, virtually no taste, and cheap.

Ditto Aqua Mira. However, I can't recall how many years (far more than a decade) it's been since I treated water. Discretion and the blessing of living in Montana go a long way. Would add, for the last thirty five years have only treated water a dozen times give or take, no matter where.

I've used the Aqua Mira tablets, but more often I'll just use the MSR pump/filter.

I'm a bit paranoid about getting sick so I have always used a First Need purifier that gets it all out. No off taste in the water at all. http://www.rei.com/product/767831

I've been using my Sweetwater Guardian for over 10 years with no problems. They've since been bought out by MSR. I've never had any problems or any bad taste. Even the time my friend and I had to filter downstream from a beaver pond from a slow trickle of a stream off of the AT. We didn't get sick and the water tasted good.

I don't use anything when i'm in the mountains hunting or hiking but anytime i'm in the lowlands or doing a float trip I use the Katahdin Pro Hiker Delixe.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

I've used a PUR Scout for something like 12 years now. Katydin bought them out and still makes the same model but calls it the "Guide".
I've used AM tablets too, but prefer the filter.
