Today, at the rifle range, I finally had the opportunity to check out one of Doug's open box specials. The Minox 3x9 against my beloved new VX3 LR 4.5x14.
First off, I liked the Aesthetics of the Minox, I was surprised by this, I thought it would have a boxy look or feel to it.
The eye relief and box were as good as my Leupold VX3.
At 200 yards, at 9x I could easily see 6.5 bullet holes with the Minox. At 200 yards I could NOT see 6.5 bullet holes with the Leupold set at 9x. I tried every which way to adjust the Leupold to make it be able to see those holes, didn't happen.
At 300 yards I could still see 6.5 bullet holes with the Minox.
One other thing I really like about this Minox are it's adjustments. They are numbered and slashed like a Leupold M1 dial except they are short and fit under the cap nicely.
Not sure of the come ups yet in the Minox but I figure the scope on a flat shooter could dial out to 800y easily and maybe 900y.
No need to send in your Minox to have a CDS dial adjustment put on in their custom shop.
So what have we here?
A scope that sells for $299.00 BDC reticle. Has a dial already that can be used out to 800y. The Minox has better glass than my new VX3.
NO brainer, I bought one today.

Nice. Thanks for the field report I will have to give one a try.

Just looked up, the Minox has 60 minutes of come up while the comparable Leupold VX3 4.5x14 1" has 58.
Should easily be able to take this scope to 800 yards.
This $299.00 scope has it all and more than a Leupold VX3.

Not SU35, but the model number is ZA 3
And I will second SU35's comments- eye box and eye relief great, the adjustment are great, and they track as marked. 8 clicks gives you 2 inches at 100yds, jsut as it should.
Next time I shoot with this scope, I will see how it holds up against rough use- it took a header off the cleaning bench today!

The Minox is definetly no slouch in the optical department. I have the ZA5 3-15. It is more scope than I will ever need.

I bought 3 ZA3's BDC. Have two mounted and sighted in with one in reserve with a home in mind. I believe it's the best 300 bucks a guy could spend on a scope.

I wished I owned 3 more, except for some niche stuff it's pretty much all you need.

I have been putting both a ZA5 3-15 and a ZA3 3-9 through their paces this summer. I don't know of a better value/performance ratio. I just bought another ZA3 BDC this afternoon, so cameraland still has some.

Just got my scope in today from Doug and mounted it up on one of the Ti's. Here is a pic of the turret with cap off. Easy dial up to long range with the marks it has. Clicks are sharp and very audible. Off with the VX3 and on with the Minox, this scope will be hunting next month.

I am getting to be an old guy; I wish the turret was just a tad bigger so that I could see the markings better. My early testing is that the BDC reticle will be all I need out to 400, and then switch to spinning the turret for ranges beyond that.

Xmas came early for me this year. I picked up a package from Doug late last week and it had a ZA3 and a pair of HG 8x33's in it.
I'm very, very impressed with both of them. Incredible value! I don't have a 3-9x of similar specs to compare the ZA3 to, but I put it up beside a 2.8-8x Conquest and to my 56yr old eyes, the only difference I could see was the ZA3 was a touch brighter, which was to be expected. Both the scope and the bins will be heading to Namibia in 4 weeks time.

Yes, exactly, it's a great set up.
I'm going to test my first line for 275 yards then go from there.
Best of both worlds and no need to send to Leupold or pay extra for a CDS.
