............Oh I see now!!! Well Mr. Loco (forget the Rancho). I can kill game "without" either the recoil pad "or" the Walker Game Ears. And I can more than afford to have "Game Ears" and therefore choose to use them. Does one owning more expensive "Game Ears" bother you for some reason?

Btw! I also use a 375 Ruger in the field too.

Game Ears are pretty nice. Maybe you could save up and get some!!!!!!!!!

I have the 260 Rem Ruger 77 MII with the ss/boat paddle. I think it is about perfect. I use this for varmit to deer hunting. I had it accurized and it is very accurate. It is not pretty, but it is not one of my requirements. If you expect to shoot a lot think about reloading as factory ammo is expensive, if you can find it.

Good luck with yours. You will enjoy it.

Geez...sorry my otherwise harmless question about .260 experience turned into this! Just to clarify, I don't think the game ear response was any more than suggestion to the thought that the muzzle blast on a 16.5 inch barrel is aggressive and the game ear can function as a noise reducer. As far as the recoil pad, this was a suggestion in the event the user of the Ruger compact found the LOP to be too short, not so much being an issue of recoil sensativity.
If we could, I would like the sniping to end and the question at hand to continue as the .260 topic is fastenating to me (I guess that is why I started it!), and we were have some really good back and forth!

I have been shooting a 260 for almost 10 years. I have been shooting the Speer 120 over Re-19, and have never felt a need for anything else. Some feel the need for 140's or monolithic's, but just for deer, I dont think either are necessary.

Pure gold.

Wonder what would happen if both were used at the same time?

Deputy,
what is that funny lookin thing growing on the barrel of your 7?

Does it help?

My 260 Kimber Montana came (used) with one on it. The first thing I did was to remove it.

Nice looking rifles.

I sure would like to find a wood stock for my 77 MKII SS as it is a good shooter.

There is no accounting for taste.

Experience is a great thing as long as one survives it.

Generally, there ain't a lot that separates the two however,
Barely making it is a whole lot more satisfying than barely not making it.

No experience with the Ruger, but do have a Rem M7 in 260. The .260 covers a lot of bases with its versatility yet minimal recoil. My 14-year-old pretty much claims the 260 now and it has worked very well for him on WT and mule deer and coyotes for the past couple of years. If a guy doesn't reload, the bullet choices are limited... I roll my own and found there is a wide selection of bullets available.

................fatjack............There is absolutely no need for you to apologize for anything!!! But you`re right! My "Walker`s Game Ear" and slip-on recoil pad, were merely what I considered to be, two helpful suggestions that I brought up because they both work very well for me when hunting with my Ruger compact.

If the "Game Ears" work well when firing a very loud shorty tubed 300 WSM as well as a loud 20" tubed 375 Ruger, then they`ll certainly do the job using a 260 shorty. And there are various price points for the "Game Ears". Depending on the clothing, using a slip on recoil pad for a shorter LOP rifle is very quick and versatile. In 2 or 3 seconds you can increase the LOP by 1" to 13.5" if needed, or remove it quickly if needed which takes the LOP back down to 12.5".......

Another great suggestion or option for carrying this rifle in the field, is by its pistol grip. With your arms down at your side and the muzzle pointed to the ground, and depending on your height, you`ll see that the muzzle is well above the ground. With my height being 6'3" + boot heels, it`s well above the ground. Maybe that suggestion will cause more controversy too??? laugh.......They`ll probably find a way!

If "Loco" and "Imitated" wish to be arrogant "gutter snipes" (a polite term), then so be it! Can`t control everything nor everyone.
