My Winchester 1885 came in today sans rear tang sight.
I am looking for information on a high quality sight to put on this rifle. I want the adjustments to be repeatable and the sight to be durable.
This is not a competition rifle, just one to shoot, have fun, and to hunt with.
I decided on the 405 Winchester, Teddy's endorsement won the day. Suggestions? All comments appreciated.

The Lyman tang sight was commonly found and used on those guns. They are quite good for accuracy and easy to use. If you want a vernier, contact Montana Vintage Arms. Excellent gear. Lyman sight on my 1885 45-90

The Lyman sight is a pretty nice sight as shown in the pictures above. But if you are looking for that style and want a little better sight then look at the Marble's. It is basically the same concept as the Lyman although the Lyman does not have windage adjustment, and the Marble's does. And that can come in handy. Also the marble's is a little more durable than the Lyman.
I have a couple of Marble's sights on my 1885's and they are OK as long as you keep your shooting at distances less than 250 to 300 yards. The Marble's has good audible and precise clicks.
Once you go past that distance then you need to be looking at a vernier sight. And there are a ton of those.
I can not get a good look at the sights on the rifles above. But to me they actually look like Marble's sights, and not Lyman sights. But I could be wrong?? Tom.

Here is a clearer picture of the Marble's on my Low Wall. Tom. And on my 45-70 High Wall. And then a Pedersoli Tang Vernier(decent quality, but not top notch).

BEAUTIFUL! I have a Uberti I have wanted a Marbles tang sight to put on. I must confess to being a little leary thinking the recoil would put it close to my eye but guess it would have been given a bad rap over a hundred years ago if it were true? Doug
