What sort of efective range can I expect to get out of this cartridge for deer sized game?

i suppose it depends upon the bullet weight and velocity you generate. tomorrow i fly to nm for an oryx hunt and my father in law is using his 9.3 with 270 gr bullets fulling expecting a 300 yard shot.
you can also flatten trajectory by zeroing at greater range.
good luck.

Effective range for deer with the 9.3x62 has more to do with you than with the cartridge. How far away can you always place the first shot in the vitals?

With 250 grain AccuBonds, it's about like shooting 180s in an '06. On deer, however, it will way over-penetrate (grin).

I know this sounds strange, but the most accurate ammo. I have found for my CZ 550 Medium 9.3 is the 285 grain PRVI factory loads. I have tried different bullet weights and reloads but this one shoots quarter size groups at 100 yards and gives me a lot of confidence. I would shoot 200 yards with this ammo. but not much farther. The velocity of this round is not high in my short barrel. I took a big Oryx with it about 2 years ago and it really smacked it. What Redhead said is the truth about it being you and not the gun or round.

You can reduce the amount of holdover you need, but you can't actually flatten trajectory.
your flippant remarks which you so adeptly sling

Sak..,
Took a whitetail at about 60yds with 270gr Speers. Just smashed him flat. Took 5 head of game in Africa. The furtherst at 130yds. using 286gr partitions. Haven't shot anyhting further than that. Animals ranged in size from a whitetail (impala) to an elk (kudu).
