I just bought my XL7c in 30-06, mounted a Burris Fullfield II on it, and am taking it to the range this Saturday. I want to know what 'factory' ammo you're shooting from your XL7 '06 witht he best grouping. I don't necessarily NEED a tack driver, but I would not turn one down either grin

Thanks

Factory 30-06 ammo will give the best groups. 270 ammo will be all over the place and 308 ammo will not group well either

Every gun shoots what it likes and you have to experiment till you find what satisfies you. Go to Wally World and buy some Rem Cor-lokts, Federal Soft Points, and Winchester Power Point none of them should be over $18 and will probably shoot great for you.

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

Ruger gives the best advice. I like the Remington 150's in mine. Just shoot some different stuff and find out what it likes. I take mine to Mexico and use the Core Lokts down there because you can't take handloads. I think you will find your rifle shoots well with almost anything. It will shoot excellent with what it takes a likin' to.

Thanks guys! I was planning on doing just what RugerM77270 said. I want to use factory stuff for availability, if I forget ammo or something

Thanks again, this site kicks bass!

Green Box Rem. Core Lokts are generally a good place to start.

Usually the least expensive and most widely available ammo to be found. There should be a rebate program in effect now, although this year I think it's only $5 per two boxes?

There are probably more deer kilt with 30-06 rifles shooting Core Lokt bullets (I prefer 165s myself) than all the rest combined. smile

If you cna find it locally, VOR-TX ammo from Barnes is out there now. I would be very surprised if it did not shoot the best of all factory loads you might try and the terminal performance will be all you can ask and then some.

Well, it didn't like the Federals, the Core loks were better, Win PP was good, but it really likes the Win Power max. Both the good shooting WIN's were in 150gr FWIW

The PowerMax Bonded bullets are really good bullets I killed three deer and a hog out of my 270 with them last year. All four exited and I hit bone on all three deer.

Then I'd get a couple of boxes of the Win Power Max with the same lot number, sight in the rifle, and go deer hunting. Winchester has been making ammo for a long time. smile

I just worry about the 150's taking an Elk. Knowing that I have an accurate gun, and place the shot well, I don't see any issues. I know its plenty of bullet for a Deer grin.

Nice Buck Ruger smile
