I spent 2 days this week in 103-105 degrees taking down and removing everything from our deer camp.
I like David McCullough, I have read his book on building the Brooklyn Bridge, His book on Harry Truman, and am finishing his book on John Adams. I've enjoyed all of Ruarks works, but I'm not a Capstick fan.

Goodbye to a River, by John Graves is a Texas classic. I re-read it at least yearly. The six-book game warden who-dun-its by Ben Rehder are fun summer page turners.

As to the OP's original four...I was reading Hagel's book just yesterday.

Proverbs - King Solomon: This is a collection of truths and advice for life from the mind of a person who has been called "the wisest man that ever lived."

The Book of Psalms - King David: This is a book of songs and poetic writings inspired by the life and times, both good and bad, of one of the bravest warriors and kings that ever lived - King David.

The Book of John - John: This is the story of the earthly life and times of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as written by John. John was called "the disciple whom Jesus loved."

The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Colossians - Apostle Paul: A no-nonsense book of "What it Means to Be a Christian" by Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles.

Not that the Bible is the only good book to read, but there should be balance...

Just finished reading the "Recollections of William Finaughty", from the Capstick collection. Great read about an old time elephant hunter in the 1860s-1870s.

When I'm in a rifle mood, anything by Jack O'Connor. When I'm in a handgun mood, Elmer Keith or John Taffin. If you're into shotguns, Gene Hill, Steve Smith, and "Shotgunning, The Art and the Science", by Bob Brister is the shotgunning bible. Sometimes I drag out all my old magazine article clippings of Gary Sitton. That gentleman could really write. Also, "The Last of the Mountain Men", by Harold Peterson is a great read. I also enjoyed "Tough Trip Through Paradise" by Andrew Garcia. "Winter" by Rick Bass should cool you down on those hot days. If you like motorcycles try "Ghost Rider" by Neil Peart. It's much more than a motorcycle book and Neil is a great writer.

A Canadian writer by the name of Paul St. Pierre has written some fine books about the Chilcotin country, "Chilcotin Holiday", "Breaking Smith's Quarterhorse" and "Smith and Others" are among them. They are available through the Barnes and Noble website under used and rare.

I've gotten hooked on C.J. Box and his Joe Pickett series. Joe's a Wyoming game officer who gets into more murder/mysteries than you can imagine. It always takes place in Wyoming and Box lives there and is accurate with his descriptions of geography, flora and fauna indigenous to Wyoming and most of all firearms. Good reads.

Also started going thru Jeff Cooper's recommended reading list. One in particular that was enjoyable was Scouting On Two Continents, by Frederick Burnham Russell. He fought Apaches in the Southwest in the late 1800's and then went to Africa and fought Boers in the Boer war. The guy was a stud who got to know Frederick Selous, Cecil Rhodes and Winston Churchill.

It has been in the mid-60s for lows and mid-90s for highs,
am reading:
Martin Luther's preface to Romans

Biography of Martyn-Lloyd Jones

Complete Book of Camping co-edited by Maurice Decker
Mr. Decker is one of my all-time favorites, he was gun editor for Fur-Fish-Game when I was a kid in the 70's. They still reprint his short stories in that magazine.

Come to Arizona....it's a dry heat and we have a great Governor!

A Century of Great Western Stories an anthology of western short stories.

A crisp new Lincoln bill (or even an old wrinkled one!) in the mail (to defray postage) will make my hard-back large-print copy yours. I'll put it aside for you if I get your PM first.
