Dad brought a "treasure" home from his early morning garage sale mission last weekend and I'm trying to help him research what he has. Have any of you come accross a tubular magazine 98 sporter before? I know there were some post WWI 2-shot shotgun builds (Geha, Remo, Hard Hit Hard) but this one has a multi-shot magazine running the full length of the forearm under the barrel. The barrel is marked "Remo Cal. 44" with "Krupp" and "Stahl" markings and the chamber cast measures as a 44-40!? It has a pressed horn buttplate labeled Remo as well. He sent this poor quality picture and is working on sending some more showing the elevator/magazine mechanism. Can anyone shed some light? Did Remo use a surplus military action to build this sporter during the Treaty of Versailles for an American customer ("Cal. 44")? Current value? Is that a Ruger stock that's been rebuilt to fit the Mauser in? Sure looks like it...

Only tube fed Mauser that I know of was the 71/84, and that ain't it.
Sure a lot of work to adapt a long action bolt gun to a lever action cartridge.
Hope that your dad sends you a lot more pictures. This could get interesting!

very neat! If you look closely at yours and the one I am selling you will see similarities in the trigger barrel and sights, so it is likely from that era.

It would be interesting to know how they dealt with the recoil lug and front action bolt. I would love to see a picture of that action out of the stock.

A few years ago on GB there was an FN Mauser Sporter
in .44-40 caliber, with a tubular magazine that ran the
length of the barrel. Dont remember what it sold for.
