I am doing load development for a 1 in 10" twist Lilja barreled 7mm-08 at the moment, and am finding that H4350 is too slow for this rifle.

My question is - do slower twist barrels generally perform better with faster burn powders?

The logic behind my question is that slower twists yeild lower pressures, and therefore more rapid burn times are required to get up to optimum pressure.

Twist rate has such a small effect on pressure thats its not even worth accounting for. H4350 is a bit slow for that cartridge. Try H4985 and IMR4064 instead.

Both the 7x57 and the 7-08 shoot H-414/Win 760 very well for me.
With 140 grain Partitions in the 7-08 and 45 gns of H-414, I get 3 shots at 100 yards in 1/2". I used Fed 210 primers.

You didn't mention the bullet weight your working with. H4350 would be a tad slow with bullets lighter than 140gr. but still workable if your willing to accept full cases and slightly slower velocity. I find it and RL19 to work very well with 140gr and heavier bullets in the 7-08 providing top velocity and accuracy. I don't believe that twist rate will have any meaningful effect relative to the powder burn rate. Example I have a 257 Rob. 1 in 12 twist, built when the belief that a slower twist would provide higher velocity was being touted. I have never been able to achieve any higher velocity with it than a ton of 1 in 10 twist Roberts I have had no matter the powder used. The benefit of the 1 in 12 twist???? None as it won't stabalize bullets over 100gr for beans.

H4895 +1
or H414

I've never shot any bullets lighter than 140 but these two powders do well for 140 and up.

Thanks for the advice all. I am working with 140 grainers - Nosler BTs and Woodleigh PPSN.

I have some Varget and H4895. I will give them a try.
