I have a rifle that I need to ship to a fellow in Australia..I called the only exporter around these parts and his web page quoted me $130 to $300 max....I called and the lady told me it would cost me at least $1000 to ship it..???????? So whats the real story on this..and are there any brokers or exporters that anyone can recommend to me..I shipped some guns years ago and bought some also and the cost was not prohibitive..

While we are on the subject, a member from down under PM'd me a few minutes ago and wants to buy one of my scopes...are there any legal restrictions on my sending it to Australia? Hope I didn't hijack the thread...

We can't get bits and pieces from Cabelas e.t.c sent here to Australia let alone guns, those days of bringing guns in from the US are over for us. Between your export and our import regulations we're fighting a loosing battle here, and by the sounds of our Government they want to tighten things even more. You Yanks have no idea how fortunate you are! DON'T let your Government trick you into handing, in or registering your guns, we all "did the right thing" and we got screwed hard, and the dust still hasn't settled.

I had the same question a while back about shipping a buddy's gun collection to Chile, and got no real answers either.....this seems to be an area where someone needs to set up a business

Hope I didn't hijack the thread... I buy all of my optics from the US and yes there some restrictions your end but only in regard to optics with 'military applications'. There are no problems with your average Leupold, Zeiss, Burris etc, etc. I'm a bit of an optics whore so I do it on a pretty regular basis.

Ray, if I am looking at a firearm from the States, I always allow a grand Australian on top of the purchase price.
Getting them into Australia is not a problem....simply ring the firearms registry and they will issue a B709b for free, then send a copy to the exporter in the States.....finally present original to Customs, and Bobs your uncle.
The problems all start at your end.

Optics and such are no problem at all.....neither is reloading gear, brass and similar equipment, I generally purchase from Sinclairs.
Postage is an absolute bitch though!

no one, So if I get a form B709b, then all I have to do is get an exporter to send the gun a dealer in Australia, right..I can't see where the $1000 comes from..shipping a 15 lb. gun shouldn't cost more that a couple of hundred dollars..I send stuff to Australia all the time for much less than that, but not guns.
I think there must be a way to handle this kind of thing wherein its possible for both parties to be satisfied..

No Ray, the licenced Australian Shooter has to source the B709b....and you are right, a couple of hundred for shipping and the rest goes into someones skyrocket.
Rebel Gun works occasionally bring in private imports for individuals......they only bring in a couple of shipments each year though.
