We will be leaving PA for Colorado next week. I would like to find some good ribs at dinner time pretty close to I-80. Any suggestions? Might "settle" for a steak instead.

Big Horn Mountain BBQ 2524 South 13th street in Omaha. It's about five blocks North of I-80 at the 13th street exit. Nothing fancy, just good Q.

There's a Famous Dave's about a half mile south of 80 at the Merle Hay Road exit in Des Moines/West Des Moines. Also a good private rib joint called KC BarBQue off 235, the freeway through DSM, south on SE 14th exit a few blocks just past the capital bldg. The 235 jaunt would lose you no time and when back on and heading west runs into and becomes 80 in a few miles from the SE14 exit. Probaly others too but I'm familar with those two and enjoy their food....maybe a little too much. wink

Depending on when you'll be hitting town, you could give a call if you need anything. I'm working 100 miles out of town and driving everyday so I don't get home until 6:30-7:00 on weeknights. Around home most weekends. Send me a PM if I can help.

Good travels!

Not sure about ribs, but you can get a pretty good steak at "Grampa's" just south off I-80 at Kearney, NE. Haven't been to Kearney for a while, so hope Grampa's is still there. John Madden used to stop there whenever he was traveling on his bus from MNF venue to MNF venue since he hated flying.

I'm not real big on restaurant BBQ but there are some good ones out there. I usually look for a local blog or society for input from cookers like this one.

Most every city or state has one.

Another good spot for info is:

My good friend, Terry J., who is a food guy and has a favorite restaurant almost everywhere swears by Mustard's in Des Moines. He even buys the BBQ sauce to use at home.

In Omaha, I like the Amarillo BBQ on Fort Crook Road in Bellevue, about 2 miles south of I-80.

For something slightly different in BBQ, I'd hit McKenna's on 74th & Pacific. Probably less than 10 minutes from I-80 depending on traffic. Absolutely great food.

Amarillo's is also good, bit tougher to get to from I-80 though.

Amarillo's tops McKenna's for grub and atmosphere IMO, McKenna's is easier to get to off I-80. These are probably the best two BBQ joints in Omaha, although the wife and I did split a mighty fine rack at the Lone Star about a month or two back.

With four endorsements, Amarillo's is the plan. Should be about 9 or 9:30 Monday night.
Thanks for all the input.
