It was my turn to cook tonight so we went out for a meal. Not really; it's Erica's birthday tomorrow (happy 29th dear; 29th of August that is!) so dinner was in order. We had roast Elk with Lamb chops on top, garnished with local Chantrelle mushrooms. Very nice, in fact it was excellent. Prior to dinner we had a salad with smoked Muskox. And the dessert! Pretty fancy stuff for a hick like myself. I could get used to eating like that. We've been talking for several years now about writing a book about eating-out in our town; specifically, where NOT to go, as we seem to have more than our share of substandard eateries. The place we went to tonight would never grace the pages of a book like that. Over the years, every time we've been there it has been stellar, well, except for once when under different ownership, for a short time the quality slipped a bit. The Quamichan Inn is a safe bet for a good dinner, of course it did cost a bit over a hundred bucks for the two of us. I can't vouch for their lunch or the Sunday Brunch but I bet they're something to write home about too.

I know it's illegal to sell wild game but I also know deer and buffalo (bison to new age politically correct persons)have been raised on farms for many years and can be bought by restaurants and over the counter. How do they explain the Elk and Muskox? Are there now farms for Elk and Muskox? Where? What else are they farming, besides salmon?

I've seen several places across America where they farm raise elk but I've never seen Musox. Can't imagine that's a big market item.

A guy down the road from me was raising elk and buffalo, looked to have better than 50 each. He did that for several years, but now they're gone and replaced with Scottish Highlander cattle.

There are a couple places here in town that I can get an elk burger. The closest elk is about a thousand miles frome here.
