The best thing you can do is get your finances in order and try to streamline your medical needs.
The rest of the world won't let our economy collapse because there would be no one left to by their trinkets. Sure, your dollar might only buy 10-25% of what it use to but it probably won't be any different anywhere else.
Going to a foreign country, especially one you're not familiar with, would only make your struggles 10 fold.

My wife, ever the alarmist, is getting nervous about this. I told her we wil just have to suck it up and make due, living off the land. We have plent to do it.
She has a medical condition and requires pretty specialized medicine available from only a couple of pharmaceutical companies in the country, and oxygen at times. And her condition will only get worse, never better.
Anyway, I think if SHTF here, we're going to be SOL as far as her meds go anyways. With the new insurance changes coming....who knows what these meds will start costing us. Currently it is $150/mo. for her one special med, after insurance, before insurance it's $6,000/mo. There is no way we could swing that.
So back to my original question, where would be a friendly country to flee to? My wife has distant relatives in Italy....

POC Unfortunately, with her medical condition, there is no place to run. No country will want her. Unfortunately, and being old I'm somewhat in the same category, the only place left for us is death. For old people and people with serious medical conditions I guess it's the ice flow for us. I truly wish I had something more positive to add to this.

Stock up on meds for her, and stay put. Can't be done, sent via FedEx to our house on a month by month basis. But I will reassure her. Thanks, POC Check the prices for her meds in Mexico and stock up. Costa Rica is another.

I'm amazed at all the people offering serious advice on this.
Geez.
I grew up during the cold war and as a little kid I had to do the duck and cover drills in school during the Cuban missle crisis. We had to stay away from the windows in order to survive the nuclear blast. Yeah right.
One thing I've I learned in my life is ignore the worst case scenarios. It gets you nowhere. You have live your life and plan for the best. Going down the path of the world is coming to an end and were all gonna die is pointless and self-defeating.
That's my opinion.

IF the SHTF, I would stay right where I am at. You have more friends/connections in your hometown than anywhere else and you know the lay of the land much better, unless under water I would stay local. Just pick you "local" well! Agreed.
