Hello 99-Friends,

someone offers a Savage 99 here in Germany in calibre .308 but with rotation magazine. Can that be? Were the 99th in .308 not only manufactured with clips? Or has it perhaps got a new barrel in .308?

Serial-Number is B986982, its not a take down.

The seller says the gun has once been in Australia and was owned by a professional hunter.

Condition looks good, the auction is under

What do you think about that gun?

Your opinion is much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance and best regards from Germany

It's a correct rifle, looks like a 1970'ish 99F. The 308's were always available in rotary mags from 1955 on.

All of that said, there's not a lot of collector interest in the post-1960 99F's over here. But quite a few folks like to hunt with them. Over there your options may be a bit more restricted though.

Good luck!

Welcome from Germany!

That is a post 1960 manufactured 99E with rotary magazine. They are very common here in the states in 308 and 243 caliber. A fine hunting gun.

No new barrel on that one, that is a factory configuration.

That gun look to be in decent shape. The price of that gun translates into about $320 US dollars. Assuming it is in working order, that would be considered a good deal where we come from.

If you should decide to purchase this gun please feel free to shoot some European game (Red deer, Roe deer?) with it, and post some pictures for us to enjoy.

Good luck.

Randy

My bad. On my lowly work computer with smaller monitor. Lever safety and no pistol grip cap are just a bit much to overlook tho.

99E.

The shame..

Pasche,

The Savage M99 E is an excellent hunting rifle. If you win the auction you won't regret it.

Hello 99-friends and many thanks for your opinions and your answers.

If it is original, than it is ok. I love the 99 because of it functions and finish and I own two of them: one in 22 HP from 1913 or so and one in .243 from the seventies. The 22HP is fantastic, the .243 is ok. Both are allowed to hunt for little deers in Germany but to stay with the german law the calibre is to small for pigs. Therefore I would like a 99 in a bigger and comon calibre for example .308. And pigs can come everytime here. So inbetween I bought a Browning BLR in 30-06. But of cause thats not the same.

Savage 99 are very seldom in Germany and an 99 in .308 is much more seldom. It will be sold in an auction, so I will see how high the price will rise. I think there are not much hunters who know the 99 in Germany but the handfull that know the 99 are online with me and are locking for them.

The 99 in .243 I got from the egun-auction for 350 including Optics, thats was a good price for it. I had problems with the rotation magazine and brought it to a good gunsmith. He didn't know the gun but he promised to do his job on it although he doesn't have time for unknown objects. 9 month later I could get it back. The gunsmith told me that it would be unpossible today to manufacture a rifle in that finish and quality in every single detail for less than 6000 or so.

Best regards from Germany
and af fine weekend for you all!

And that is why they are discontinued, and cannot be brought back.

Yes, it was produce in a number of Savage Mod 99s, the best of which were the 99EG and the 99F of the 1950s, 60s. The 99EG in .308 is a rare gun. Wish I had kept the ones that I owned in the past.
