What's a reasonable red dot for an AR. Also, what do you think of Stag uppers? Thanks.

What do you mean by reasonable? $200? $400?

If your looking at less than $200 I would say the Vortex Strike fire. I have one on a GSG-5 (MP5 clone that shoots .22LR), was in the market for an affordable red dot, came across the Vortex on Optics Planet, read the reviews (lots of them and almost all great). And decided to order one to try out. I like it a lot so far.

The other red dot I have (mounted on a M-1A SOCOM 16) is an Eotech M512. It's a holographic sight but along the same lines as a red dot. That one will run you in the $400-425 range. Also a very good and highly praised sight. Eotech makes a few other models, along the same lines but for general civilian use the 512 should be good enough for 99% of people.

Aimpoint Comp M2 is also a great sight runs in the $450 range, tooled around Iraq for 16.5 months (and 5 month train-up) with one, and it never let me down. Also carried a Trijicon Acog, another great sight runs in the $800+ range.

I've never used one but the strikefire has had favorable reviews here before, might be worth a look.

I've had several eo-techs and aimpoints as well, prefer aimpoints but 512 eo-techs can be had on the used market for $300 all the time. Be sure and get a Rev F version.

I'm using an aimpoint micro H1 right now due to it's small size and weight. With a good mount, they'll run about $500-$600.

Reasonable depends on how you intend to use it.

I have 4 different red dots. On my AR180B, I have a fairly inexpensive Bushnell. It has worked perfectly for years.

I also use an AimPoint on one of my Bushmasters, a Vortex Strikefire on my Ruger Mini-14, and an EOTech on my Spike's Tactical M4.

I have been pleased with them all.

For a low budget go with the Vortex Strikefire, very good red dot for the money and comes with the mount. I used one for awhile and it worked perfect. Since then I have changed over to EoTech's and run a 512 and a 516 and very satisfied with both.

I was issued an Eotech 512 for my work rifle. I had been debating getting one for my personal AR. It is a really good system. I think it is perfect for my 16 inch barrel rifle. Out to 100 yards it is the fasted sight I have ever used.
