I'm finally getting my t/c firestorm tomorrow and I was just wondering what kind of muzzle velocity I can expect with 150 grain of pyrodex and a 320 grain conical

umm... you may want to work up to that load in your rifle first, no sense in ruining a good gun right off the bat...
[This message has been edited by blammer (edited February 01, 2001).]
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.
PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

I figured it would be safe since t/c recommends 150 grain or powder.

My buddy had a t/c muzzleloader and he ended up using a 380 grain harvestmaster bullet with 120 grains of powder.
I have had good luck with the Barnes MZ 250 grain bullet with 100 grains of powder. Shot a mature mule deer head on at 75 yds this year and bullet penetrated the full length of deer.
Work your way up gradually on the powder charge, more is not always better. Accuracy is were its at. Have fun and good luck.
Chad

I have a TC Black Diamond that I shoot (3) 50 grain pyrodex pellets behind a 310 grain lead conical and sabot. I have a Harris bi-pod mounted on the gun and took a nice 8 pointer at a measured 175 yds this past season. Dropped him where he stood. The gun is scoped with a 3x9 Atec.
Works for me.
Wall

Wall,
What kind of groups are you getting with your black diamond. I never could get mine to shoot real well with 3 pellets. I was thinking about buying some 30 grain pellets so I can shoot 120 or 130 grain loads.
NM Kid,
Glad to hear to like the Barnes bullets. I started shooting them this year but didn't get a dear with my muzzleloader.

I got 1900+ fps with three 50gr pyrodex pellets and a 300gr bullet. Recoil was brutal though. I went back to two pellets. This was with a 22" DISC rifle.Bill.338.

LSU fan
I shot from a bench when I set this gun up. I started with eighty grains Pyrodex RS Select and worked my up to where I was grouping about 1 3/4" at 100 yds; however that 310gr conical was going south for the winter at 200 yds. I bumped up to 150gr, get about 2 1/2" at 100yds, just under 4" at 200yds with 5 1/2" drop at 200yds. I've killed 3 deer with this set-up between 150-175 yds. They dropped in their tracks. If you decide to go this route, shoot it several times until you know where that bullett is going to impact when you pull the trigger. I switched to the pellets because they are easier to load.
Wall

LSU fan...I shot two deer this year with my 250gr. Barnes MZ's in front of 130grains of pellets out of my Bighorn. They work wonderful, I got a nice wound channel and complete pass-through. My gun will shoot about 1" or just a hair more from the bench at 100yds. I am to from Louisiana and don't have many shots over that distance....GH
