I posted this on the scope board but thought this would be a good place also. Last summer for the heck of it I took along on a prairie dog hunt my Browning A-bolt 25/06 with a 3-9 power simons scope. I was quite pleased with the results but was limited by the scope power. For a cheap expirement I would like to replace the Simons with a higher power scope like one of the ones I see in Sportsmans Guide that can be had for $60-100. They have a Guide Gear, Tasco, BEC Eurolux, BSA, Barska, etc. Have any of you had any luck with any of these and could suggest one. I know they are not top of the line scopes but I am doing this as a get by cheap expirement. Thanks

Of the scopes you mention, I'd go with a Tasco. If you want a good buy on a 6X24 Tasco, I can let you have one for $100.00 shipped that's never been used. I had it on a 22-250 Savage that I'm gonna sell too. I don't think I've ever fired it with it on the Savage yet. Just thought I'd offer but I would stay with Tasco in the lower priced scopes.

you might try cabels they had a 6.5x20 simions for $109.00 about the best I have seen them.
I have one of these on a 22 mag. and it works great on seeing the small targets.

My old heavy-barrelled Ruger 22-250 wears a Tasco World Class 6-24X scope. The view is kind of soft around the edges, but the center is sharp. the windage and elevation adjustments work well. By-the-way, you will find, as I did, that high magnification is of limited use when the weather is warm. Mirage gets really troublesome at any magnification over 10X.

Make me an offer...I have a 8x32 40mm BSA that I will let go for whatever you think is fair. I used it a while and kept it around for load development. Works fine.... From hours of practical experience I can tell you I have alot of trouble shooting prairie dogs with scopes of higher magnification than 14x. Mirage, limited field of view and less than a sharp image are problems with higher mags.
