Been reading this forum for a while, just my second post though. I discovered this forum from a reference to it at the Hunt America forum (which I've posted on for some years now), and must say I really like this one!.

Anyway, to the point, I've picked up a used .270 Wby Mark V and want to work a load up for it with the 140 grain Barnes TSX. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any specific load recommendations with that combination (outside of using the normal X data in the Barnes manual). Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have the LW version. It shoots everthing I have tried well, around an inch or so. I have tried the Barnes 130 and 140X, 130Ballistic Tips,130 and 150 Hornidys, and 130 Partitions.I would have likes to have used the Barnes but the Partitions are close to half inch with H4831SC. I seat to mag length.

I don't have a .270 Wby, but I'm thinking of getting one. Some years ago there was an article in either Rifle or Handloader regarding IMR-7828 for the .270 Wby and it seemed that worked very, very well. I've used it with heavier bullets in the .300 Win and really like the powder -- it gives remarkably uniform pressures and velocities. Elsewhere on this site it's noted that a short-cut version is now available.

I have a 270 wby. Couldn't find a good load until I started using IMR 7828. IMR 7828 and 140 grain Accubonds are deadly. Very accurate. It is my go to gun now.

Thanks again.

cbaker,

In my late great 7 STW, IMR 7828 was one of the few powders it liked. What charge weight of 7828 are you using with the 140 NA? (I understand about starting below as all rifle's are different, etc.) and how far off the lands?

thx!

I haven't tried the TSX in my 279 Wby yet but the TSX has worked very well in every other cartridge I've used. Here's a couple of 7828 loads that have worked well in my 24" 270Wby.
130gr Nos BT, IMR7828-75, 3449 Fps, OAL 3.385"
150gr Nos Par, IMR7828-68.5, 2927 fps, OAL ?

7828 has always been the best powder in this case for me.
