Well lets get this years deer season pics off to a start 2nd night out, haven't hardly scene anything around our land this year. Ride horses out there once or twice a week and until last week haven't scene much the previous six weeks. Last night out was my first night on stand this year. Didn't even see a squirrel. Left a few minutes before dark and came upon this guy with a few does and a couple other bucks on the edge of the grove/bean field on my way out. Had about a 60 yard shot and I'd just been practicing a few hours earlier at 50 yards and had 4-5" groups, but my self imposed limit on deer is about 40 yards. Well... Tonight left work a little early and went in a hung a stand where I'd scene the deer feeding. Saw 1 buck and 3 does (two fawns) at 7:00 go trotting past me about 40 yards away. 7:25 and I heard something coming, one smaller buck and this guy were coming in. Had about a 20 yard shot and made it happen. Deer didn't go 20 yards before piling up. Sad the seasons over, but no complaints as this is a very good deer in this area.

I have yet to go hunting. My season for my tag opened today.
But after my birthday, I plan on heading to the forest a couple times.
So I will see.

Sorry if you are bored having seen this pic in my other threads. This was a great little hunt during the early anterless season with my good friend, Jimmie. I will not soon forget it. There will be more pics to come as the season is just getting started.

This morning was opening day in GA and I managed to shoot some meat for my empty freezer. I sat till 10:00am without seeing anything more then a hindend disappearing into the brush. So I get out of the stand and walk down the shooting lane a ways to trim a couple limbs that were in the way before I leave for the day. I lean my rifle against a tree and use my mono pod to get hold of a branch over my head unsucessfully for a minute. I look down the shooting land and though the waist high grass and weeds I see what looks like ears about 130 yards away. I drop my mono pod walk over the get my gun, pick my mono pod back up let it out all the way and take about a minute of moving back and forth till I foung a good window to send the bullet though. At the shot my 130gr TTSX put her down.
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

Hunting on crutches probably sucks, but hunting with Ruger No. 1's does not suck. Good for you guys! Hope your foot/ankle/ leg get better soon.

Hunting on crutches probably sucks, but hunting with Ruger No. 1's does not suck. Good for you guys! Hope your foot/ankle/ leg get better soon. Thanks Tom. Crutches suck period, but it beats the alternative. Actually, I use a cane (heavily) when hunting. It's about impossible to get around in the wild with crutches 'cause they hangup on everything. A cane doesn't support as well, but I can pick the cane up over the obstructions. In late November I will be getting a new knee made of steel and plastic. Hopefully I'll be off the crutches by Christmas or thereabouts, Lord willing. I'm glad His strength is made perfect in my weakness 'cause I hate it. I did manage to kill a eater buck over the weekend with my bow (Pro-Line Corsair from about 2000). I'll post pics soon. I thank God I have a strapping young son who is willing to help track and drag my deer out of the woods for me.

dvdgeorge...is that from WNY? That's a pig! Didn't know they made 300lb'ers around here!
I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!
