Found a couple of these in a shop today. I like them both. How are these for function, reliability, etc?
One was an 06 with sights and a Weaver K4 the other was a 7mm Rem. Mag.

I've got 2 currently, both featherweights, and had others I foolishly got rid of. All worked flawlessly.
Turned one of the current ones into a nice light 7x57 using a douglass fwt barrel.

The two I found got me thinking....
I really shouldn't do anything until after deer season.
The shop had two .338 win mags in Ruger Hawkeye, both unfired but used, with boxes for 5 bills. That is tempting as well.

Another vote for the XTRs, they are good rifles.

Yes! You fine people have great taste. I have a Win mod 70 XTR 264 Win Mag. I think they are a true example of real workmanship. Very good value for money. Some might even say that they could be better than some newer versions on the market today.
Our F1-11 gets retired this week. What a shame.

They are definitely much better guns than the late New Haven Classics, probably the best Model 70's built in the Post-64 era.

Or I don't intend to, I like M77's I have a few. But here goes, my dad has a M70 supergrade in 338 that we bought him when he turned 50. My little bro has a walnut stocked M77 in 338 that he got just a couple/few years ago. That M77 will punish a man, recoil is quite different then the M70 my dad shoots. Rise? Weight? combo of the two? I don't know but it might help explain why there are 2 slightly used 338 hawkeyes for sale in that shop. Tell us more about that ought sicks. Is it a pimpy FWT? Gor a raised cheek piece? what's it like man?

One was an 06 with sights and a Weaver K4 the other was a 7mm Rem. Mag. Nothing wrong with the PF Winnies.. The XTRs are finished a bit nicer than the standards.. My go-to rifle for better than 35 years has been my PF 70 in .264WM.. Never fails me.. If the price is right - buy and enjoy.. If you have any questions on it afterwards, gimme a pm and I'll get you goin'...

I also have a 70 XTR in 264. Get the 06, and never look back.

It's like redneck explained.
The 06 has a fancier wood stock with a darker piece on the forend. A glossy finish, but not like a browning. 22" (IIRC) barrel.
Sights, mounts and rings. Not sure what the rings were, but the front one was an extended one for some reason and it didn't need to be. It had an old Weaver K4 scope on it. Nice gun.
The 7 mag was much the same, not quite the nice shape of the 06 and no sights. A real soft recoil pad, didn't look what it was though. Both guns fit me nice
