I have a S&W 686 with a 4" barrel that has a little to much slop in the cylinder. Can a revolver be timed by the average guy or is this strictly work for a pro? If I can do it myself where would I look to learn how?

I believe you would best leave this to a pro.The work takes the proper tools, a supply of parts and ability gained only by having done it (and messed it up).By the time you have acquired these, you could have paid to have the work done several times over.If the gun is really worn,it may have to go back to the factory for a new ratchet (extractor).Simple measurements can tell how worn it is before doing any work.

If you arethinking about doing your oun work first get
"The S&W Revolver" by Kuhnhausen. The book and most of the stuff you will need is available from Brownells.
The book will tell you what is involved, and give you a better idea if you want to tackle it.
The answer to your question is; yes you can do it, but it is not a job for someone that isn,t serious.
Good Luck!
