Does anyone know if the 150gr CL that Remington loads in their 300 Savage ammo, is the same bullet that they use in their 308 and 30/06 ammo?

Reason for the question is this: I have just aquired a M99 in 300 Savage that shoots lights-out with 150gr Core Lokt factory ammo. Would like to handload with the same bullet, but don't know if the 150gr Core Lokt bullet that they sell to handloaders is the same. thanks for any info.

No. Looks like something in the 3031-4064-4895-Varget range should be good. Got suggestios?

Start with 4895, either H or IMR will do.

If it shoots your lucky and good to go, there is not a better cup and core bullet out there..I have an uncle that has killed a truckload of elk with both the 150 and 180 gr. Corelokt in his only rifle, a Sav. M-99EG in 300 Savage caliber. Its the only bullet he uses..

I have used the 150s and 180 Corelokts a lot in my .308 M-99F and it works there also. The nice thing is you could buy them by the bulk at a really good price..

I have about 300 or more of the old 180 gr. round nose corelokts and they kill both deer and elk really well in a 300 Sav. or 308.

RL15 has done as well in the .300 as it has in the .308, at least for me.

I almost mentioned it with the 4895, but I held off because my experience with it has been in crisp loads for a M700 Classic which may not be '99 appropriate.

Two 99s and a 700 Classic in .300. The .308s have been 99s and bolt guns. The older (pre-war) 99 was loaded using Sierra's data with the 150gr Pro-hunter; the post-war 99 and Classic were loaded warmer.

This matches my experience with them. My sons and I have killed a bunch of critters with them. Like all bullets, some rifles like them, some don't. If they shoot accurately in your rifle, then shoot them. They kill well and yes they can be bought in bulk to save some money.

I have had outstanding luck but only since JB admonished me for not using Varget in my one to two inch .308 Sav..I tried it and low and behold I have a 99F 308 Savage that shoots 1/2 inch 3 shot groups everytime, and one inch with 12 shots cuz that is what it measured in that the last 4 3 shot groups I shot, they overlapped each other and measured just a tiny tad under one inch.

That is pretty amazing for any lever action or bolt action for that matter. Needless to say the gun has found a permanent home and that is rare around these diggins.

Thanks JB...
