Anyone use pellets in their stove? How long does a bag of pellets last? Trying to decide how much wood, pellets, etc. to bring up to the hills.

Thanks in advance...

If I was using a tent stove I would look at getting some coal. It will last longer than pellets or the soft woods you guys have out west.

We always take a pick-up box of hard wood for burning after lights out. We have three sleeping tents with a sheepherder stove in each and the hard wood will usually last the entire 10 days. The local aspen is not worth cutting for the heat you get from it. Pine is o.k., as long as the tree is completely dry i.e. ALL of the needles have dropped off. Unfortunately, due to beetle damage there is a lot of really dead/dry pines. Yellow pine is o.k. for "toddy time" but it won't keep the tent warm for more than a couple of hours - at least in our stoves.
Best of luck with the hunt!

There are hoppers made that gravity feed the stove pellets, Is that what your wondering about?

I would like to hear from guys who use them also...better than chopping wood and feeding a fire/freezing at night.
