I've got no experience with either (starting fires with, burning, tending, etc.) TEACH ME TEACH ME TEACH ME!!! (Thanks in advance!)
Which would you suggest?
How big are the pres-to-logs?
How much coal or how many logs needed for about a week?
Remember: SAFETY FIRST................................................................................................then pull the trigger

Gotta watch those presto logs. Some stoves cannot handle them. With coal, you need a grate or it will burn out the bottomof your stove. Also, coal banked down stinks like heck.I know we heated with coal for 25 years in my youth. Why don't you look at the Blue Flame ventless heaters Northern Tool sells and take a 100 lb propane tank with you. Put a CO and CO2 sensor on your tent and you are good to go
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

CH, It's a woodstove, fer cryin' out loud. Burn real wood in it. The wax filled fireplace logs will gum up your pipe, and unless you are used to burning coal, stay away from it. The answer to your question concerning amount of fuel can't be answered until you know how many hours the stove will be burning, what fuel (and temps) and availability. Sounds kinda like you'd be better suited to a propane heater......
