I have a model 10-8 S&W 38spcl that I want to find date of manufacture. Where can I find the ser # list? I cantfind it on S&W.com.

What frame is a model 10? K/L?

I don't believe there is any listing online. Best way is to ask over at one of the S&W forums. OR, since I am a member of those forums, if you post your serial # here (leave out the last # or 2), I can look it up in my book and tell you.

I could quote the serial number breakdown from my Smith book, but it's pretty involved.

Basically, if your gun has the logo on the sideplate, it was made sometime between 1977 and 1981. If the logo is on the right side of the frame, it was made after 1980. If it has a pinned barrel, it was made prior to 1983. If it doesn't have a pinned barrel, it was made sometime between 1982 and 1988.

Logo on left side. Barrel not pinned. This gun is in rough shape for it to be 1980s. This was not one of my better online catalog purchases even though total cost was $234.00 including FFL charges. Not only was the finnish about %50 but it's nicked up andthe Pachmeyer grips were sawed off to fit as if this was a heavily used plinker and looks didn't matter. Listed as Good To Very Good but didn't arrive like that. Oh well.

It was made between 1982 and 1988. One made in '77 would be difficult to tell from one made in '87 on the basis of wear alone. Folks use them differently.
