Is anybody using the .375 H & H for elk hunting? If so, does any one have experience with the 300 gr. Sierra or the 250 gr. Sierra? I have a good 300 gr. Sierra load, but wondered if the 250 gr. might be a better choice for elk. Thanks for any in put!

I use the 270 gr Hornady spire point and a healthy dose of IMR 4350. Has worked well for me........

IDCPA,

The .375 is the ony big game caliber I've used since '82, the AI since '89.
I had dismal results(bullet separations) when using 300 grn. Sierra's in the H&H.I've heard that Sierra has since improved them, but I'll never prove or disprove that!! The separations occured both in game and in test medium, while Hornady's performed flawlessly!!
My pet-load ( although above listed max) is 270 Hornady spire-point ahead of 82.0grns. WW-760. This load is consistantly under 1" for 5 shot groups, my best at .48".
I really liked the way the Hornady's performed @ H&H velocities, but seemed to expand too rapidly @ AI velocities for deep penetration. So, I went to a premium bullt in the AI.
I hope this may have helped some. -memtb

I have used the 375 H&H to take two bulls, one of which was a very, very large bodied old bull (nicknamed Toothless!). Both were shot inside 60 yards. The 260 gr Partition at 2650 fps worked like a champ on both. This was from a 7 1/2# Remington Mountain KS and the relatively mild load was much more pleasant to shoot than the 2500 fps 300 grainers.

Ive used that 300 seirra boattail on elk "ONCE" I found the jacket minus the core under the ELKS skin, yeah the ELK DIED, but I swapped to the 300 grain HORNADY boat tails and for me the results were much better in that IVE YET to recover a bullet and the ELK drop as if HAMMERED!
