Just shot the attached photo from my deck, handheld, everything in auto... The distance is a lasered 189 yards to the sign. There is no support of any kind, just standing on my two hind legs and shooting.

The lens is an Image Stablized Canon 100-400 L series.

This is just a small section cropped out to get it under the size limit, but edge to edge looks great!

Funny you should ask that particular question... Have been fighting with the city to get another stop put in a little closer to home... I am sensitive enough to the issue that I ALWAYS stop at that one...

Lookin' good. Too bad you didn't have that camera a year ago & you could have documented that cougar sighting by Mr. Rick.

The camera is the new Canon 20D... SLR, 8.3MP, will brush your teeth for you if you program it right... The lens for this shot was the IS 100-400. While it was ridiculously expensive, it will soon pay for itself between film and developing savings and the file storage...

I got the body at B&H for 1785, including the battery grip. The lens was 1410 all by itself and the wife's Rebel XT, assorted lenses and cards, filters and such came to over 6k total... It seems like a tremendous sum, but adding up what I have spent in film cameras it is close...

Quit picking on Mr Rick! He had evil influences when he saw that herd of cougars! He could have picked most anything, but at least we knew he was alive and his eyes still worked!

Give me a BREAK!!!!

When Sitka deer, newly annointed moderater and highly experienced Alaskan guide, entitles a post "Unreal!!!!!! Digital Test Shot..." I expect to see MORE than a picture of a FRICKIN' stop sign..........................

I expect to see a big bear, a moose, a caribou, an elk, or even a pretty girl, but NOT a STOP SIGN!!!!!

In speaking to the photography gurus, I have asked about that lens a couple times and they have all said it is pretty compromised, especially on the short end of things???
