I have a 4x Leupold mounted, in low rings, on a .308 Hawkeye. Plenty of clearance for the bolt handle and my fat fingers

I looked for a long time and finally found a brand new 77 (dusty) in .257 Roberts in a shop in East Texas. It was a terrible shooter until I glass bedded it and honed the trigger. It took a lot of work to get it there. I hope the new Ruger products are better than the old ones. I always read they had problems with the old subcontract barrels. I have a lot of Ruger guns but this old Model 77 was at the bottom of my list for a long time.

I bought the UL .257 Roberts.I really like the 20 inch barrel, makes it handy.Very easy to shoot off hand. The Ruger is not very accurate,2 inch groups is the best I can do so far.Group size don't bother me a whole lot.90% of the shot's in my area is less than a 100 yards.

With some tweaking, most bolt action rifles will shoot well. The Ruger triggers are indeed one of the easiest to work on, and with some bedding/floating efforts, one can probably shrink group size. It would be nice if the companies put in that extra effort for us, but if they did so, there would likely be a 2 or $300 increase in price.
