Varget with 120 NBT's, is 1st choice in my son's, I4064 with 130 Speer HCFB is choice #2. Both have the same POI at 100yds. I have both loaded and let him choose what he wants to hunt with....

Haven't loaded much for 7mm-08. As a matter of fact, I picked up one for the wife 2 days before we started hunting. Day before I took it to the range with 15 rounds loaded at 42.0 grains of H-4895 under a 120 TTSX in reformed Nosler .308 custom brass loaded at 2.800. Figured it would do well enough for a spur of the moment purchase just before our first day in the woods. Got it on paper and dailed in 1" high at 100 yds and it was shooting about 1", which is about as good as I can do.

I will probably bump the charge weight after season is over, just enough to get the brass to expand and seal the chamber. But frankly, I don't think I could ask for more than a got. And I don't think she'll need much more than that for what/where we are hunting.

My 788 carbine dotes on R17, I use 47 with the 139 Horn it's the load from the Alliant site. Shoots great but is a bit stout for my liking (like most of the R17 loads on the site IME) and will drop it a grain or two next time on the bench.

I have one that likes HDY 139grSST & IMR 4064, Shoots under .5" at 100yd. That is a 3 shot group out of a 700 MTN rifle.

+ 1 RL15 .... I use the charge weight from the Nosler #6 Manual, and its perfect in my Rifle.

Best of Luck with yours, but be cautious.

I would say Varget works the best for me with my wife's gun. I have used RL-17 and RL-15. Varget just comes out on top.

The load I use with the Varget powder is.

44 grs. Varget, 140 Nosler A/B, Fed 210m, WW brass. Velocity is 2840fps.

Shoots great in my wife's gun.

RL 15 and Varget are versitle powders. I use them in my 7-08 and 308. I have used Varget in 223.

RL 15 works well with 150gr. bullets in 30-06.

I wrote 2875 fps for a 139 SST with 42.2 grains of Varget...

47 Grains IMR 4350. Hornady 139gr. This is a MAX load, shoots great out of Rem 700 SPS

Running 44gr of H414 and 120NBT. It's been really impressive.

I like H414 in my 7 08 also. I also would like to give Ramshot Hunter a go. Everytime Ive used one of their powders, I get impressed...usually, not always, but most of the time.

44.5 of 15 and a 120 tsx will do right about 3000 fps outta my Montucky. Ain't much that won't kill. Varget don't get there, and I like Varget.
