Can anyone pass on contacts for one of these expeditors that basically speed up the process to get your rifle through customs on arrival?
I have kind of a close connection in JHB and don't want to risk it....
Thanks,
Tim

I used Afton House but JHB was my final destination. Not sure what you will have to do to just make a connection. I do know that the hunters that arrived when I did (about 5pm) and were to fly to Windhoek the next morning, had to get their guns checked thru at JHB then bring them to Afton that night, then take them back the next morning and re check them. YMMV

TimZ, I could be wrong on this, but if you are making a connection, that night, why not ship your gun to the final destination? I don't think you have to go out of security, and back in, if transiting through RSA.

If you swith to different airlines this doesn't always work. I fly to different countries in Africa all the time and some times I check a bag in West coast Canada and pick it up at the destination in Africa, but not on all routing this can happen. Check first or change to different airlines for this to happen is sometimes required. Good luck Tim

Thanks guys....i guess we will see how it works....but i thought Afton house was a guest house there, not a firearms expediter....

Air 2000, Gracy Travel, Cabelas are firearms expeditors among others.
Beware of thieves, scammers and dishonest members on the "Fire" classifieds. Ya there is a thief here too. Whatever!!
They're all around the CampFire and everywhere.

"Air 2000, Gracy Travel, Cabelas are firearms expeditors among other" And PHASA. I used Air 2000 on my last trip this past September, I literally could never have made it through JNB and make my connection to durban without Air 2000. I highly recommend them.

We have used Gracy with great success. This September we had a guy that decided to go hunt buffalo in Zimbabwe with a handgun. We only had eight days to set it all up. Gracy got it done and all went through without a hitch. Here is a link to their site. http://www.gracytravel.com/sapermit.htm

I just went in April and had zero trouble clearing myself. It took me about 25 mintues once I had my firearms in hand.

I used Afton House and would use them again without hesitation. Fast, friendly and priced better than many of the other places I looked.

I used RiflePermits when I went in March.
The gentalman's name was Henry, and I, too, had a tight cconnection on to Capetown from Joburg.
Not only did Henry assist with the rifle security, which proved to be flawless both going in and coming out, but he also walked my wife and I to our connecting gate and carried her bag. Then, he would not accept a tip!
Highly recommended. donsm70

It is very easy to do it yourself. Not rocket science at all if you spend five minutes researching what has to be done and filling in the form yourself. I'd rather spend the fees charged on shooting another animal.
If staying at Afton House they usually have someone there to help you anyway.
Just remember you are on African time now.

I spent the night in Afton house and they had an off duty police man run me through while they came to pick me up. I had a series of flight delys and a change of carrier for them to contend with. A great bunch of people who are really friendly and helpful Randy

Air 2000. I just got back yesterday from my third trip. Atlanta to Joberg, Joberg to Durban, Durban to Port Elizabeth, PE to Joberg. NO problems with rifle or ammo. Air 2000 met me and walked me through all the hoops while other people were trying to figure out what was going on. It's a no brainer.

If you have a tight connection Tim, I'd use an expediter.
JNB is a terrible airport, every time I've checked bags all the way through from Sydney to Windhoek, something never turns up at Windhoek.
Air 2000 is the one I keep hearing good things about.
