I ran a load through the other day that scared me for a minute. It showed over max when I used the 357 Magnum SAAMI and safely under (1 full gr.) when I switched to 357 Magnum CIP. The load showed no pressure signs in my Marlin but I'm hesitant to use it in my 586 now even though changing the barrel length from 20" to 6" did not vary the output.
Which would you use, CIP or SAAMI?

I'd reduce the desired maximum peak pressure and run everything through again.
Different powder may be the answer.
Hard to tell, since no one can tell how you're using QuickLOAD or how much you know about how to use it.
"Good enough" isn't.

The peak pressure calculation only varies by 90 psi or so. It's just that the SAAMI limit appears to be a great deal lower than the CIP limits. 35K v 43.5K psi. I guess I could look up SAAMI values but one would expect that the defaults within the program would be correct. I know, trust but verify. I doubt that many people actually reference another source when using a program designed to calculate internal ballistics.
I have been using QL for 4 or 5 years now. I learned it inside out before the interface was made so 'user friendly'. This is the first load that I can recall where changing the barrel length had no effect on the output.

Simply changing the barrel length from 20" to 6" does not show any changes. You have to press tho OK button either in cartridge dimensions or powder charge window, too.

Sorry, my mistake using the word any. What I was trying to say was that the chamber pressure (Pmax psi) did not change which now makes sense beings the chamber is the same. I do see the velocity changing.

no, SAAMI max is not a guess. it is a set number with a safety margin.
what IS the WAG is how much more than SAAMI your rifle will contain before you eat the bolt
