LEUPOLD VX-R
[Linked Image]
Sleek design with daylight-capable illumination; the Leupold VX R. Patented 1-button design minimizes bulk, while allowing users to select between 8 intensity settings, including a low/high indicator. The readily available CR-2023 coin-cell battery produces remarkable runtimes, while the fiber optic light pipe eliminates the need for an eyepiece-based control module. Proprietary motion sensor automatically deactivates illumination after 5 minutes of inactivity, yet reactivates instantly as soon as any movement is detected.

Leupolds legendary Index Matched Lens System combines with edge-blackened lead free lenses for astonishing clarity and light transmission, while the extreme fast-focus eyepiece ensures optimal diopter adjustment in the field. The 30mm maintube and finger-click adjustments assure maximum adjustment precision, while the second generation waterproofing resists the effects of thermal shock much more efficiently than standard nitrogen.

Waterproof, shockproof, and backed by the Leupold Full Lifetime Guarantee, the Leupold VX R is the next generation in sporting optics.
Available in the following models:

God knows I love Leupold scopes, but batteries and motion sensors aren't something I need in a scope.

If it's that damn dark and I want to kill something bad enough I'll break out the 1million candle power one-eyed Beagle....

+1 ...

though I eagerly await the rash of second hand Leupolds to hit the classifieds when people start dumping them to make room for the motion sensor versions ...

We can only the stupidity runs that deep, though I am constantly amazed by the depths that humanity can drive that trait.

never felt the need to have any type of illuminated reticle, I don't see the point, I suppose there is a use for it but I haven't found it.

I have to agree with all of the sentiments above. I been using a 3X9 VARI X II for more than twenty years and it's performed flawlessly despite the fact that it employs ancient optical technology by today's standards.

Calvin,

You're right I've never gone on a high dollar hunt, and if I were to do so I might consider using a better scope than my trusty VARI X II. I have however harvested deer during the late buck hunt in Northeastern Washington. This hunt occurs during the rut and the big bucks don't generally leave the thick brush until just before dark. I've shot deer in heavy timber when it was almost dark and have had good luck with the old Leupold. On the other hand, you make a good point, a better scope may have bought me a few extra minutes.
