Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while. I picked up my first 99 about a year ago. It's the 250 at the top of the pic. It is a re-blue which still has some pitting and polishing marks, but has a perfect bore and is a good shooter. sn 568xxx Boss code B as best I can tell. (1950?) Drill & tap obviously not factory (lousy job). Can you tell me what model this is? I've just ordered the Savage 99 book. Looking forward to receiving it.

The second one down is a 300 which I just purchased today from a friend. I am guessing the sling swivels are not original. Also someone decided to move the rear swivel forward to not interfere with their slip on recoil pad. This one is in the 287xxx range (1926?). Bore looks good. Hope to fire it soon. Also would like to know the model of this one.

The third one I bought a few months ago. It is a 308 featherweight. It appears to be all original.
SN 914xxx. Code on this one looks like H (1956). This one appears to be factory drilled & tapped.

When I bought the first one I really thought it would be the only one. Now it seems like I am always looking for another one. I will be hunting with the 300 and the 250 this year, so hopefully I can post pics of my rifles with dead deer.

I had always been fascinated by Savage 99's. I think I'm glad grin I finally got one, but this disease is going to be expensive. cry

Looks to be an EG with a G in the middle and an F on the bottom.

Thanks for the info. Guess I don't quite have the picture posting down yet. Now I got the pic right.

Barrel been cut on that 250 EG? Should be 24" with that serial #.

Nice 308F, pick of the litter in that bunch.

Just sayin

The 250 and the 300 are both 24" barrels.

Your right on the 308 being the best of the bunch. Got the best deal on it too! Bought all of them as shooters, but the 308 is probably somewhat collectible.

Another question. The 300 has a shorter stock than the others. The length of pull is just under 13". The #s all match. Is this normal on the earlier models.

Thanks,
Jim

Must be an optical illusion from the camera angle.

If you can see the serial # on the wood under the butt plate of the 300G than the stock has not been cut.

Might as well apply for your C&R FFL soon as well. It will serve to fuel the addiction but you are already among the, "lost" anyway smile

You've got the dates right, good job. 1950, 1956, 1926.

You've only got a few dozen models to go to be complete! Then, you can start on having all of the cartridges for each model..

Then you'll discover old Savage pistols, rimfires, and other interesting critters.

Buy more safes.
