I found this fly in a tree on the Madison- I'm only curious. Someone hated losing it- he put a lot into the tying. I'm thinking: A red floss butt; A yellow floss body; Some dark, glossy hair as a tail/body extension; Copper rib; Dark thread and copper wire 'collar'; Rubber legs; Light deer hair underwing; White calf tail overwing/bullet head; And even topped off with a pair of brown Sharpie eyes! Ring a bell with anyone?

It looks to be fairly large 6-8 hook?
I'd love to see what that would do with our warm water fishes of the area.
Looks good to me.

It would be a great smallmouth fly here on the upper Potomac River.

Looks similar to Turk's Tarantula.

I just looked that up. Similar, but different. The spun deer hair head/collar on the Turk's are the most glaring differences. This could be an imitation avoiding that difficult step, but...

Certainly a variation on the theme. But much too complex to simply call it a Madam. I didn't think to show it to Doug when I was out there. Stupid me!

Yellow sally aka lil yellow stone fly, the red end represents the female's egg sack.like others said tied madam x style, not a cataloged fly, just creative fly tying. Out of stonefly family the little yellow stone is the only fly I know of that is tied with a red butt. The real insect also has a red egg sac.

Can you tell me which tree that was... I think it's mine!
Please mail it back to me.

Well of course not... it's a different time of the season. What's short to you - may be kinda tall to me.
