Just thought I would share what a 99 in .250 Savage could still do - the rifle and scope are old (1949 era) but can still cut the mustard. One shot.

Longbeardking: Just a short synopsis of the hunt.
Rainy morning, had been on stand since daylight, felt miserable about getting my 99 wet. Kept telling myself, "If the rain ever lets up, the deer will move." and "Give it just 5 more minutes and then go." We've all been there.
Rain stopped at 9:55 AM, the buck walked out at about 75 yards at 10:00 AM - told myself "Just stay calm, squeeze the trigger and let the bullet do it's thing."
I did and the Remington 100 gr. PSP did it's job. Deer ran 25 yards and piled up.
Gotta love old stuff still doing what it was designed to do.
Upstate South Carlina area.

Amazingly I have chon'ied that load and it only runs about 2600 to 2650 from my EG. The WSM brothers will be surprised it didn't bounce off. You probably got full penetration of the boiler room........didn't you? Awesome buck. 11 days till we hunt Michigan.

Nice mass on that one. Congrats.
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

All that with a tomato stake. Where's Joe to admire this? (Last of Breed - the reference to "tomato stake" is not my invention but some here with more of a, "collector focus" have been a bit harsh on the 99EG). Nice job.

Boltman: Here's the same deer, a little different angle. I don't know why anyone would diss the 99, it's a grand old gun in all it's permutations.
