I purchased a very slightly used Anschutz 1730 heavy barrel in 22 Hornet for a very good price.I mounted a Kahles CL 3-9x42 scope, loaded up some 40gr V-max bullets ahead of Lil Gun,and today I was able to shoot five shot groups under 1/2" at 100 yards. It should make a great varmint gun out to 200 yards or so.

If it shoots groups like that it will work at 200 yards. I have a Kimber Left handed .22 Hornet and using the same load as you I knocked over a big black bird at two hundred. Lasered it to make sure and it was 201. He/she just sat on the perch for a few seconds after the shot and then just fell over backwards. Best shot I had made in a good while.

I have had a 1730 HB 22 Hornet for 8-10 years. It is very accurate and really fun on prairie dogs.

Sounds like a wonderfully fun little poodlepopper. That is exceptional accuracy for a hornet from what I hear.

It could pass for new,and was likely unfired. An older fellow was selling off his guns due to failing health.I ended up paying $1300 shipped to my door.I paid another $650 for the Kahles CL 3-9x42,and then mounted it with Talley rings.By the way ,those are Canadian prices,in Canadian Dollars.

For yotes, the 40g Speer Sp is a fantastic bullet and super accurate also.
This little bullet has the ogive forward on the bullet allowing the bullet to touch the lands while using a magazine.

I have been loading the v-max to .010" off of the lands, and clipping off the end of the plastic tip to allow the rounds to fit the magazine. It doesn't seen to effect accuracy, and the BC is still likely higher than the other 40 gr .224" bullets designed for the Hornet.

Sounds like a wonderfully fun little poodlepopper. That is exceptional accuracy for a hornet from what I hear. I have owned two hornets. My 14" contender barrel shot a 3/8 inch five shot group at 200 yards. Not a typo, a real 200 yards. My CZ shot sub 1/4 inch five shot groups out of the box the first day. It is now a K-hornet. Keep playing with your new hornet. The little guys will amaze you. They are the little guy who can get the job done. BTW. A hint. Fire form, then neck size about the first 1/4 inch of the neck. Case life goes way up. Some like to crimp, I don't. See what works best for you.
The first time I shot myself in the head...

I know a guy in PA that used the same rifle for squirrels for years, until the laws changed and now only rimfire is legal in PA for small game.
