Anyone have info. on the 99 salesman's sample. There were threads here on it a while back, but can not find them. What serial number range? What model? What calibers? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug

More appropriately known as Spiegel 99EG's. Not exactly sure of dates, but from 1937/1938 through 1940/1941.
All EG's. Scrollwork on side, sling studs, d&t with 2 holes under the rear sight and 1 in front of cocking indicator.
Every one I can remember seeing was in 300 Savage. Except that a 99 sold just recently that MAY be one in 250 - it didn't have the sling studs, and it didn't look like it had the d&t. But it did have the scrollwork.
If I can find a link to the Spiegel ad I'll bring that up..

Doug, they were around 370,000-380,000 sn range, i have a couple in 300 and 303, the ones i know of are Eg's and some had checkering on the pistol grip and none on the forearm ,some had the checkering on both, most came with sling studs ,and extra drilled and tap holes on the receiver and barrel under the rear sight for what i think was the belding and mull scope mts. Im sure Rick or Rory will be able to find the original thread. Don yep Rory beat me thats what happens when you type with one finger !!!!

Just reread the ad. Says they were available in 4 calibers (sigh).
30-30, 250-3000, 300 Savage, or 303 Savage.

Interesting timing. I saw a rifle yesterday at the gun show in Mason Michigan that may have been one of these. An old guy was carrying it around trying to sell it.
It was a .300 EG with checkering on stock and forend, engraved receiver, and it was fitted with a 1" Stith mount. I looked it over hard, and noticed the two extra holes behind the rear sight dovetail (the Stith mount covered the extra hole at the rear, if it was there). I ignorantly assumed the two extra holes were non-factory and saw this as a deal-breaker. I also suspected that the rifle had been reblued many years ago. He was asking $1500 for it, which I thought pretty steep, given my cold feet about the extra holes and possible reblue. Still, I WAS sort of interested in it and offered a trade of the rifle I was selling ( a nice old Deluxe grade Remington 722 in .257 Roberts). The old guy thought long and hard about it, but ended up carrying the gun back out to his truck. I didn't get his number.

I have one in 303 sav also, serial number 359,6xx. Mine has had the wood changed somewhere along the way. It has the holes drilled for the scope mount and the roll stamp on the sides (not engraved).

I think a real rarity out there is a Spiegel 99EG (aka "salesman's sample") without sling swivels.

Pretty sure there was one on GB this past week in 300SAv. Seller didn't advertise it as an EG or salesman sample and didn't high light the engraving in his description. Had a scope on top. Unchecked pistol gripped stock. Of course I can't find it now.
