Hello there,
I am trying to find a good quality down sleeping bag for backpacking (lightweight), but all I have tried so far are not wide enough in the shoulder area for me. Did anybody here have similar problem and could suggest some manufacturer/model for bigger size bags? Thank you.

Western Mountaineering has a bag called the "Kodiak", I believe, that is made for bigger folks. It is rated to 0*F, and(has) down fill.
I just checked the dimensions on it; width is 66" at the shoulders and length is a full 7 feet. It weighs in at just under 3 lbs, not bad for a bag that size.
Downside is that it is (probably) going to run you between 5 and 600 dollars.

That would be my choice if looking for a top-of-the-line down bag.... Casey

If you only need a true 30 degree bag, the Western mountaineering Megalight is a great wide bag with 850 fill down. I have slept in in below frezing before with a sweater on and have been plenty warm.

There is nothing warmer or lighter then a well made quilt. These guys make the best. http://www.nunatakusa.com/site07/main_pages/product_sleep_systems.htmJust tell them how big you are and they will make it to fit. I roll around a lot and was always chocking in a mummy.

I'm sold on Montbells Stretch systems.. 66" min I require, yet most BA's are just to big and hard to heat.. Montbell has the solution to that problem! http://www.montbell.us/

I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

Mountain hardware has the switch bag that works great for me. It has a zipper in the side the opens a baffel to give more room on the shoulders. Im only 6', 200lb but very wide on the shoulders.
