It is a custom 700 with a fluted Sendero taper Krieger 10" twist. Jewel trigger, Leupold 6.5-20x50 LRT, McMillan Classic stock. The load was backed down from the severe heat of this summer to 87 grains IMR 7828 with the 140 Nosler Accubond seated .005" off the lands. The accuracy is awesome and velocity running 3625 fps.

I truly appreciate it.
I had 2 reamers made off the then brand new 338 RUM case.
The other is a 30 caliber version.
I am such a 7mm freak, I have never done the 30 caliber yet.
May never, if this one won`t do it, it just don`t need doin.....

How much difference is there between this round and the 7mm RUM? I realize it is shorter and therefore probably less capacity but what are the advantages over the regular 7mm RUM? Thanks, Ryan

Hey Tim, stuff a Berger 180VLD in that brass, pack it full of powder and let the steel ring to 2K....damn that would be HOT!

The advantage is the parent 338 RUM brass is .090" shorter than the 300 RUM and with a correct throating arraingemnet the OAL of the loaded round will fit the 3.7" magazine box. I can seat bullets to the lands and they will still fit in the factory box.
WDEA, I may go with 162 A-Max`s first and see what happens. I am encouraged because I had some heavier bullets loaded for fire forming that shot great.

Of course. I traded my 7/338 away, so I might do another soon myself. I will use the right action this time.

Tim, Wondering if you ever had to chance to run a bore scope down the tube and take a look?

I used a standard magnum the first time out. I was fooled by the fact a new unfired piece of brass would fit between the rails, and once fired was just a hair to tight. Of course. No, but not worried at all. I gave ammo to the proud new owner and he has shot out to 1000 with 140 Accubonds 2 shots landed 4" apart at 1000 after he found his comeup. I just used it for 4 years antelope hunting, and once whitetail hunting. I bet I had less than 100 rounds down the tube. He paid me $150.00 extra for the custom Redding die I had made and another $75.00 for the Wilson seater using the same reamer. I have a much easier 7mm that is really shooting very well. The 300 WM necked down to 7mm. Magazine box friendly and now that I found why it was not shooting I am ticked to death with it now. Tim, Wondering if you ever had to chance to run a bore scope down the tube and take a look?
